If you need support with ANYTHING on this page then please do not hesitate to contact your Parish Councillors. You can find ALL their details on the YOUR PARISH COUNCILLORS page and any one of them will be more than happy to help.
As you are aware, the spread of Covid-19 is now impacting our daily lives. Our ‘vulnerable and over 70’s’ residents are being asked to self-isolate and everyone else has been asked to “shield” them and delay the spread of the disease by staying home and not going out unless it’s essential.
Please keep up to date with the rapidly changing advice from these reliable sources:
NHS – For health advice regarding Covid-19, symptoms, self-isolating etc.
Public Health England – What you should be doing to help stop the spread of Covid-19
Staffordshire County Council – Information about how you can help, changes to SCC services.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council – Council tax, business support, bin collections etc.
Gov.uk – The latest Covid-19 guidance for households, health professionals etc.
If you are using Checkley Parish green spaces please adhere to the Governments social distancing guide.
Please be aware that Checkley Parish Council has closed all childrens play areas…SEE NOTICE
SCAMS – Please keep alert for scams, if you’re unsure check it and report it via Friends Against Scams
We are living in exceptional times where different ways of working are required.
CHECKLEY PARISH PLAY AREA’S WILL OPEN 23RD JULY 2020
At the monthly full council meeting on 21st July 2020 the Parish Council voted unanimously to reopen the play areas of Checkley Community Centre, Tean Recreational Ground and The Wentlows from 23rd July 2020.
The Parish Council will only be carrying out the standard play equipment and checks and will NOT be cleaning any of the equipment. We ask you to read the signage and follow the guidelines. You can also view the Parish Council’s Risk Assessment HERE.
If you care concerned about the equipment then we suggest you refrain from using it.
The government guidelines can be found HERE
Clinically Extremely Vulnerable
If you have recently received a letter from the NHS or been contacted by your GP and advised you are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable then you must register for the Governments Coronavirus Support.
I WOULD LIKE TO BE A SUPPORT NETWORK COMMUNITY CHAMPION!
We are asking for volunteers to support our ‘vulnerable and over 70s’ residents by becoming street/area ‘community contacts’. Obviously, the number of homes you might be able to support will be entirely up to you and your own commitments.
The Support Network can help anybody self-isolating by:
- Collect/deliver weekly food orders from local suppliers for households who are self-isolating and have no support.
- Prescription collection.
- Dog walking, pet care (emergency vet visits etc).
- Be a street co-ordinator ensuring that everyone in their area is aware of what help is available and ensuring people are being looked after.
- Be available for a chat (over the phone or social media).
- Help organise all this
Please send an email to email@example.com or phone 07840 456397.
I WOULD LIKE SUPPORT FROM A SUPPORT NETWORK COMMUNITY CHAMPION!
If you are self-isolating as a result of Covid-19 and require support with:
- Collecting of grocery supplies.
- Prescription collection.
- Walking your dog.
- Feeling anxious or lonely and need to talk to somebody
Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07840 456397/07793 613333. You can also call any one of the numbers listed below or any of your eleven Parish Councillors.
This may separate us but it doesn’t have to divide us. You are not alone.
(poster updated 5/4/20)
By volunteering and giving us your contact details you are giving us your GDPR consent.
The Parish Council is NOT DBS checking anyone and is not vouching for anyone’s character. (Sad that we have to say that) we are relying on everyone’s integrity and community spirit to pull together.
Any exchanging of monies for goods is at the discretion of both parties and not the Council.

Most local churches are offering online services via Facebook. But because they are all “public” Facebook pages, you shouldn’t need a Facebook account to access them – just the web address or link, or even a google search would enable access.
Local Anglican churches online at Facebook are:
Forsbrook & Draycott and environs
Cheadle & Freehay and environs
Rocester, Denstone, Croxden and environs
Anglican churches are encouraged to register their online service here:
Where you can also access services from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York
And the Diocese of Lichfield has daily prayer online at 1pm
The young people based at the Roman Catholic Alton Castle Retreat Centre are going live regularly throughout the week via Facebook with praise, worship and prayer services.
Renew Church Uttoxeter are also holding Sunday, midweek and house-group sessions via Facebook
And the Dove Evangelical Church in Uttoxeter is uploading services to YouTube :
St Peter’s Facebook service is usually 10am Sunday;
St Michaels is 10:30am Sunday, as is Renew.
Dove aim for upload by 11am Sunday.
St Giles the Abbot (Rev Nicky) is an evening service (we think it’s 6pm, but do let us know if that’s not correct).
The Church of England services with the Archbishop are on Facebook from 9am, but they have been on BBC radio earlier at 8am previous weeks.
Most of these churches are regularly uploading services and reflections during the week. The videos are accessible after the live stream has finished for as long as the author chooses to make them available, most are still available now from two weeks ago, but some (Cheadle St Giles the Abbot) have expired.
The Church of England has made some of it’s previously subscription apps now free. Including the Daily and Evening prayer app Pray. A search in the relevant app store for the Church of England would find all their Apps.
Churches from further afield offering online services and some are in different formats from just Facebook: St Martin’s in the Fields have some lovely podcasts on SoundCloud – as an example.
And there are some good websites offering written daily prayer and services/meditations, some with hymns in video: I can get a list of these if you are interested.
Specifically, in Tean & Leigh our digital resources are an email group for guided fellowship as well as mutual support, and a WhatsApp group for friendship, encouragement and support. An email to Rev Joe (firstname.lastname@example.org) could get people into these groups if they wish to join in.
